ESS recently installed a new gym sound system for Kennedy High School in Manchester, MO. The system was completed in April and provided several unique features for the school.
To Begin, the primary purpose of the system was to provide speech reinforcement for sports and special event functions. However, requirement also included reinforcement of prerecorded music as well as live music from several different school bands.
The final system design then required a full range system capable of providing high SPL levels to the normal east/west seating areas as well as system control to enable certain cluster components for musical events. A point source cluster was installed using AA speaker enclosures, Crest amplifiers, a Mackie mixer, and a Biamp Nexia processor. The system was installed in a portable rack with a custom patch panel and switches.
The patch panel provided switches to reconfigure the software to enable east and/or west components in a biamp mode. In addition, another switch reconfigured the software to enable the main amplifier outputs in a full range mode. This allowed the school to reuse existing gym speakers with new system components! Thus, a new portable system for indoor/outdoor events was a system bonus.
